Anatomy of an Expedition: Selections. Nova Expedition, 1967.

Abstract

An oceanographic expedition is the crystallization of an idea; it begins and ends in the mind with a little sailing around in between. The idea that became the Nova Expedition began to take form in the fall of 1965. The basic idea of Nova is to try to determine the development and geological history of the peculiar Melanesian region in the southwestern Pacific where the sea floor seems to be part continent and part ocean basin.
