Collision-Free Channel Access Using Transmission Queues with Fast Queue Joining
Abstract
QSMA-FAST (Queue Sharing Multiple Access with First Attempt with Success in a Turn) is introduced and analyzed. QSMA-FAST consists of establishing and maintaining a distributed transmission queue among nodes sharing a common channel and results in a sequence of queue cycles. Each queue cycle has two or more queue turns for collision-free transmissions from nodes that have joined the transmission queue, followed by a joining period. While a target queue size is not reached, a first-success technique is used during the joining period to expedite the queue-joining process. QSMA-FAST does not need to rely on any physical-layer mechanisms to establish transmission schedules; hence, it can be implemented using very simple transceivers. The performance of QSMA-FAST is compared against the performance of ALOHA with priority ACK’s, CSMA with priority ACK’s, CSMA/CD with priority ACK’s, TDMA with a fixed schedule, and QSMA without the first-success technique.
