SOURCE PROVENANCE OF OBSIDIAN ARTIFACTS FROM THE CORNING MUSEUM OF GLASS COLLECTION, CORNING, NEW YORK

Abstract

The analysis here of 16 obsidian artifacts from the Corning Glass Museum indicates an extremely diverse provenance assemblage from five U.S. states and two states of Mexico. While it is difficult to determine whether all the artifacts were produced prehistorically (Cat. # 62.7.2B certainly was not, given its provenance), there are some inferences in this regard that can be made and are included in the discussion. Additionally, bibliographic citations and some comments on the sources in this collection are also offered
