Marine sponges (Porifera): ancient metazoans of ecological importance, that produce bioactive secondary metabolites and interact with various microorganisms including cyanobacteria1:Marine Synechococcus spp.: cyanobacteria,important contributors to the global carbon cycle andmajor primary producers in the oceans2Ca.
