UC Comment Letters

This comment letter responds to the National Institutes of Health, Office of Laboratory Welfare (NIH/OLAW)'s Request for Information on proposed guidance to assured institutions on cephalopod care and use. UC expresses concern on whether OLAW has the authority to expand the application of the U.S. Government Principles or revise the PHS Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals (PHS Policy). UC recommends several changes to the proposed language to allow for PI input when developing institutional cephalopod policies and SOPs, as well as allowing for flexibility with cephalopod care staff qualifications.
