Call for Papers - Priority Consideration for CMRS 2026 Conference Presenters
The Journal of Critical Mixed Race Studies (JCMRS) is pleased to announce our 2026 Call for Papers as we relaunch the journal with renewed vision, expanded scope, and a commitment to publishing rigorous, interdisciplinary, and creative work in the field of Critical Mixed Race Studies. Following the February 2026 Critical Mixed Race Studies Conference, our first issue of the relaunch year (expected Fall 2026) will prioritize submissions based on work presented at the conference, including revised papers, expanded presentations, creative pieces, visual art portfolios, and collaborative dialogues that emerged from the event. Conference presenters are especially encouraged to submit, though all scholars, practitioners, artists, and community‑based researchers are welcome.

Priority Deadlines for 2027

• Issue 1 – Spring/Summer 2027
• Priority Deadline: January 15, 2027
• Issue 2 – Fall/Winter 2027
• Priority Deadline: June 15, 2027

Please note: Rolling submissions are accepted year‑round for all article types and will be slotted into the next available issue.

What We Publish

JCMRS welcomes submissions from scholars, artists, practitioners, community researchers, and interdisciplinary thinkers whose work engages mixed race studies or adjacent areas. We publish a range of genres, including:

• Traditional scholarly research articles (empirical, theoretical, conceptual, historical)
• Short scholarly interventions and critical essays
• Methodological innovations that push the boundaries of how mixed race lives and racialization processes are studied
• Visual arts and creative portfolios
• Creative writing including poetry, hybrid forms, and literary expression
• Dialogues and roundtables documenting collective or multi‑voice knowledge
• Practice‑based reflections from educators, activists, artists, counselors, and community practitioners
• Book and media reviews essential for scholarly engagement in the field

We especially encourage submissions engaging critical perspectives on mixedness, racialization, monoracism, global and transnational contexts, community‑rooted knowledge, and liberatory approaches.
