With deep respect and gratitude, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. G. Reginald Daniel, whose pioneering scholarship and editorial leadership shaped the creation of JCMRS and the field of Critical Mixed Race Studies. Reg was an extraordinary mentor, colleague, and friend whose intellectual and community‑building work influenced generations of scholars, students, and activists. His passing is a tremendous loss, and his legacy continues to guide the journal’s mission, ethos, and future.
A memory board remains available for those wishing to share reflections, and the G. Reginald Daniel Memorial Fund at UC Santa Barbara continues to support students and the ongoing work of Critical Mixed Race Studies.
Honoring Co‑Founder Dr. Laura Kina
JCMRS also recognizes the profound creative, organizational, and intellectual contributions of Dr. Laura Kina, artist, scholar, and co‑founder of the journal. Laura’s leadership in the inaugural CMRS conference, her dedication to visual and arts‑based scholarship, and her extensive labor in establishing the journal’s early identity were essential to making JCMRS possible. Her integration of visual culture remains a core pillar of the journal today.
