About

Aim & Scope

UCLA Department of Medicine Clinical Insights is an editor-reviewed publication administered by the UCLA Department of Medicine (DoM), hosted on the University of California’s eScholarship platform, for DoM faculty members to publish their creative work. In contrast to Proceedings of the UCLA Department of Medicine, which focuses on traditional forms of scientific writing, UCLA Department of Medicine Clinical Insights publishes visual diagnosis pearls, narrative medicine essays, clinical reasoning cases, and completed quality improvement project summaries. In offering our DoM faculty an additional venue to publish peer-reviewed content, we hope to expand the volume and scope of faculty submissions and the reach of their creative work.

Visual diagnosis, pattern recognition, patient stories, clinical reasoning and systems improvement are all fundamental ingredients of clinical care provision. Each unique element enhances the practice of medicine and our ability to teach and mentor trainees. Scholarly submissions in these four areas will increase the creative output of our clinician educators, reduce time to publication, and enhance teaching with an easily accessible and unique online repository of medical knowledge that will also serve as an educational resource for all practicing and aspiring clinical faculty.
