Editor-in Chief: Michael Lazarus, MD

Dr. Lazarus is a hospitalist who has been a faculty member at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA (DGSOM) for more than 20 years. He currently serves as medical director of the UCLA Hospitalist Community Practice Sites and was clinical chief of the UCLA Hospitalist Section from 2003 until 2023. His teaching awards include the UCLA Distinguished Teacher Award, the 2011 and 2018 DGSOM Golden Apple Awards for Excellence in Medical Student Teaching, and Clinician Educator Award from the California-Hawaii chapter of the Society of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Lazarus was also awarded an honorary fellowship by the Royal College of Physicians, London, and serves as a Royal College of Physicians International Advisor for the Western United States. He is president of American College of Physicians' California Advocacy Services. As an educator, his interests include teaching physical examination skills, bedside teaching and clinical reasoning. 

Senior Editor: Dianne Cheung, MD, MPH

Dr. Cheung is an endocrinologist and associate clinical professor at DGSOM; she has been a faculty member of UCLA Health since 2012. She practices medicine at the UCLA Health South Bay Endocrinology Office in Torrance, where she also conducts research on diabetes and metabolism in the community as principal investigator and medical director of the UCLA South Bay Endocrine Research Unit. Additionally, she serves as site director of the UCLA Telecytology Thyroid FNA Biopsy Pilot program, a unique initiative in which rapid fine needle aspiration biopsies to evaluate thyroid nodules for cancer are conducted during patients’ initial on-site visits at the Torrance endocrine office. Cheung is also principal investigator of industry-sponsored trials for novel drugs in lipid, obesity and diabetes management. She has served as a review editor for the Journal of Diabetes and an abstract reviewer for the Endocrine Society. 

Senior Editor: Ramya Malchira, MD

Dr. Malchira is a nephrologist and primary care provider based at UCLA Health Primary and Specialty Care in Santa Clarita, where she is clinical lead physician. In addition to her work at UCLA, she sees patients at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and sits on several committees there, including the peer review and appropriateness review committees. She also has served as medical director for DaVita Dialysis in Valencia since 2020. Dr. Malchira’s clinical interests include community education around chronic kidney disease and raising awareness about health and wellness in the context of disease prevention and treatment. She was nominated as a “Healthcare Hero” by Henry Mayo patients every year between 2017 and 2023.

Senior Editor: Tyler Larsen, MD

Dr. Larsen is a hospitalist at the West Los Angeles VA Medical Center and an Assistant Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He currently serves as Co-Chair of the Internal Medicine Clerkship and Director of Physical Exam Education. His academic interests center on medical student and resident education, with a focus on diagnostic reasoning, the physical examination, simulation, and digital media. He has published numerous clinical image vignettes and regularly teaches using clinical images, including at national conferences. His teaching has been recognized with several awards, including the DGSOM Kaiser-Permanente Award for Excellence in Teaching and the VA's David M. Worthen Rising Star Award.
