This report contains an update on recent developments in Germany's western states and an account on the situation in the five new eastern states, regarding topographic and cadastral information management. It is based on a week-long visit to Germany in March 1991 and constitutes a follow-up to an earlier report entitled "German Approaches to Topographic and Cadastral Information Management". After a description of the context of this investigation, a summary of the historical roots of cadastral and topographical information management in Germany provides the necessary background for an understanding of today's situation and the corresponding major market potential for geoinformation technology. Section three reviews the current state of implementation of the standards for topographic and cadastral information in western parts of Germany. Section four contains a description of the situation in the five eastern states of Germany and a ideas on alternative approaches to land information management in this region.
