Aims and Scope

The Journal of Diversity and Equity in Educational Development (JDEED):

(1) publishes educational development scholarship that centers minoritized groups in a North American higher education context; and

(2) implements practices and policies to diversify academic scholarship by supporting educational developers from historically minoritized backgrounds at various stages in their writing career with resources needed to advance their research projects and interests.

The journal was founded on the premise that published scholarship in the field of educational development tends to be by and about dominant communities—as evidenced by the types of articles typically published, the authors featured, and the compositions of many editorial teams and boards. Minoritized narratives, voices, practices, and knowledges are often rendered add-ons or a bonus benefit. Therefore, the larger goal of JDEED is to disseminate high-quality texts that broaden what counts as scholarship within our field and who counts as a scholar.
