Meet the Scholar( Finding Your Voice): A Conversation with Dr. James Lang

Description: In this interactive session, Dr. Lang will discuss his writing path, including how he transforms ideas into compelling columns, articles, and books; how he engages with feedback and rejection; and how he cultivates a distinctive voice in his work. Whether you’re outlining your first article or looking to refine your craft, this session aims to inspire and guide you in discovering your unique writing path. After a brief conversation with a moderator, we’ll open the floor for Q&A, so please bring your questions!
Bio: James M. Lang is Professor of Practice at the Kaneb Center for Teaching Excellence at the University of Notre Dame, and an Emeritus Professor of English at Assumption University in Worcester, MA. He is the author of seven books, the most recent of which are Write Like You Teach: Taking Your Classroom Skills to a Bigger Audience, Distracted: Why Students Can’t Focus and What You Can Do About It, Small Teaching: Everyday Lessons from the Science of Learning, and Cheating Lessons: Learning from Academic Dishonesty. Lang writes a regular column on teaching and learning for The Chronicle of Higher Education; his work has appeared in the Chronicle since 1999. His book reviews and public scholarship on higher education have appeared in a wide variety of newspapers and magazines, including Time, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, and The Conversation. He co-edits a series of books on teaching and learning in higher education for Oklahoma University Press.
