Thank you for your interest in participating in The Journal of Diversity and Equity in Educational Development (JDEED) as a reviewer. 

JDEED is an open-access publication dedicated to developing and sustaining a scholarly space for minoritized voices in higher education and centering dynamic conversations about diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) practices, theories, and possibilities in educational development in a North American higher education context. 

Reviewers play a critical role in upholding the journal’s standards for academic integrity as well as evaluating the impact and contribution of a manuscript to our field. In keeping with the spirit of our journal’s mission, reviewers also play a developmental role by providing constructive feedback and thoughtful guidance to authors, especially those who may be new to scholarly production and publishing. 

We therefore invite JDEED reviewers to view themselves not as gatekeepers, but rather as advisers: we encourage you to first understand the aims and intentions of a writer and then to evaluate the manuscript on its success in achieving those aims. In addition, we ask you to provide feedback that supports the author's growth as a writer—whether or not you ultimately believe the submission is appropriate for publication in JDEED. 

We welcome applications from potential reviewers who have expertise and/or interest in various areas of educational development who can 1) provide timely and concrete feedback to our emerging and established scholars, and 2) value diverse practices, approaches, and perspectives in the field of educational development. 

Reviewing is one avenue for becoming involved in academic publishing. If you do not have previous reviewing experience (or experience reviewing the types of manuscripts we accept), we will aim to support you in this work. We will post additional resources and events for reviewers in the coming months.
