The JDEED Summer Writing Retreat brings together a small cohort of educational developers for a focused week of writing, reflection, and feedback. Participants benefit from structured writing time, opportunities for peer exchange, and guided support from JDEED editors and other facilitators. This program is intentionally designed as a low-pressure, welcoming community that supports writers in all stages of their projects.

Goals of the Summer Writing Retreat

Participants in the program will:

• Produce a defined piece of writing or make measurable progress toward a draft (e.g., a section, outline, or complete draft)

• Establish or deepen connections with a community of fellow educational development scholar-practitioners

• Give and receive structured feedback on a work-in-progress at least once during the week

Eligibility and Project Focus

We welcome applications from educational developers working on a range of scholarly or practitioner-oriented writing projects. While participants are not required to submit work to JDEED, projects that align with JDEED’s focus on issues of DEIB in educational development will receive preference in the selection process.

Application Process

Interested applicants are asked to complete a brief application form, which includes:

• A short description of your proposed writing project

• A statement of your goals for the week

• A brief explanation of how your project connects to educational development and DEIB

• A brief description of what you hope to gain from and contribute to this writing community
